What is Nada yoga
The metaphysical teachings of Nada Yoga are ancient in our Indian Tradition, used by Indian saints and devotees alike. It has been documented in sacred texts and also passed verbally from generation to generation.
नादयोग In Sanskrit, Nada is translated as the “Vibration of Sound”, and Yoga is “Union”. Therefore, Nada Yoga is the “Union Through the Vibration of Sound”.
The Vibration of Sound is part of the entire Universe, including us. From the smallest particle to galaxies, everything has its own Sound. Science proved that this universe is formed from vibrations. And In India we also believe that this universe was born from sound. This sound is AUM – the first vibration before creation, from which the universe was born.
For every one of us on the path of Yoga, of union of the supreme consciousness (Shiva Consciousness) with the individual consciousness, Nada Yoga is a priceless and powerful tool that will deepen your personal practice or your teaching practice.
Now the yogis in India have been saying that this Universe is made from sounds. And everything that vibrates in this Universe is vibrating in a frequency. Yogis wanted to hear this frequency and so they created many methods to be able to hear it. They used techniques like mantras, nada nidra yoga bhakti marg (path) or purifications. All of these practices, which they used, have been time tested.
Lately, the scientists also proved and accepted that everything in this Universe is a vibration of sound frequency. More than that, the yogis believe that the Creation has begun by the Universal Sound OM. Om in Sanskrit has three parts: A U M. In India, according to Hindu lord Shiva, AUM in the three part is the symbol of our three gods Brahma – the Creator, Vishnu – The Maintainer and Shiva – The Destroyer.
Shiva recommends himself as existing before Creation and he is the reason beyond Creation. And in the end he will be there.
By diving deep in our own hearts through the Vibration of Sound, we connect with the Universal Sound, the energy present in the manifested creation. As above, so below.
Nada Yoga is taking us from the Mind Space into our Heart Space. As Christians say: “to melt the Mind in the Heart”. In this deep and delicate process, by meditation we can connect with the Subtle Inner Sound in our Hearts.

Mythology of Nada Yoga
As we talked about the three parts of AUM – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, according to Indian yogis, OM is a very pure, divine and poweful mantra. If anyone is chanting continue in daily life, according to Shiva, after finishing his all journey as a human in this world, he can be free of all suffering and pain. Shiva is calling this state Maha Moksha, ultimate freedom, liberation. That is why we are saying Shiv Om – Shiva is Om – the ultimate Universal vibration.
In Hindu spiritual traditions, many of our gods are musicians: Krishna plays the flute (he is the avatar of Vishnu), Saraswati plays the veena – as instrument with strings ( she is the goddess of knowledge and art, representing the free flow of wisdom and consciousness), and Ganesha – the son of Shiva – created the tabla drums.
That is why in our Indian spiritual traditions is based on devotional music, dedicated to our gods, as a form of connecting with their energy. So when we are starting any mantra, or yogic practices, we are starting by chanting AUM. Many of our ancient famous and powerful Sanskrit Mantras, start with AUM:
For example, Gayatri Mantra ( CHANT). Om Tryambakam Yajamahe (CHANT)
